Education Requirements:
A four-year undergraduate degree in marketing, public relations, business or communications is an advantage but people with any major can enter the field. There are many colleges and universities that offer courses in fundraising. In these classes, students learn how to locate donors, write grants, create fundraising budgets and cut fundraising costs.
Job Prospects:
The majority of fundraisers work for charitable nonprofits, though some work at for-profit consulting companies. Those with great writing and communications skills have an added advantage, as this is very much a “face-to-face” career.
Earning Power:
Fundraisers at the beginning of their careers can expect to earn between $33,000 and $40,000 but with experience the salary can rise to $60,000. Salaries also vary with specialty.
