If you're a young Canadian who has made a difference in your community, we want to hear from you. The TD Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership rewards students who have shown leadership in areas including local employment programs, environmental cleanup, support group creation and family services initiatives.

Your outstanding and consistent concerns for the improvement of your community, could make you eligible for a scholarship to cover the cost of your post-secondary education.

Each scholarship is valued at up to $60,000 and includes -

  • Up to $10,000 for tuition per year
  • $5,000 a year toward living expenses
  • An offer of summer employment

Who is eligible?

TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership are intended to serve the needs of all Canadian families and communities.

Scholarships are open to students across Canada who -

  • Are in their final year of high school, or CEGEP (in Quebec)
  • Have demonstrated outstanding community leadership
  • Present a minimum average of 75%

 

Doing good for others during difficult times in one's own life requires particularly outstanding commitment. This is why, as part of the selection process, the personal circumstances and/or challenges of each applicant will be considered

How you apply yourself is up to you. What matters most is that you care about the community that you live in and are willing to make it a better place for everyone.

  • Visit your high school or CÉGEP (in Quebec) guidance office after September 10, 2007.
  • Visit a TD Canada Trust branch after October 1, 2007.
  • Call 1-800-308-8306 or send a fax requesting an application to (613) 563-9745.
  • Print the application form (PDF document) and complete. Please do not send applications by fax. Faxed applications will not be considered.

What you'll need.

 

To be eligible for consideration, every application must include -

  • A fully completed and signed application
  • One essay of up to 500 words by you describing the community leadership involvement that is the basis of the application
  • Three letters of support or confirmation from the community group, groups, or individuals who have been the focus of the student's involvement
  • A letter of recommendation from your school
  • A transcript of your academic record
  • One essay of up to 250 words describing your personal circumstances (family employment, economic situation, etc.) or other extenuating circumstances that may be relevant to your application
  • One essay of up to 250 words detailing your activities if you have taken a year or more away from high school or CEGEP

 

How do we decide?

 

Each application is reviewed and finalists who appear to most closely meet the selection criteria are chosen from five regions (Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario, Western Canada/Northwest Territories/Nunavut and British Columbia/Yukon). Up to 80 finalists will be interviewed by regional selection panels comprised of prominent community members.

A total of up to 20 scholarships will be awarded across Canada. Each region will have a minimum of two full scholarship recipients, provided there are suitable, qualified applicants.

Deadline

 

Completed applications and supporting materials must be returned (to the above address) and postmarked no later than October 31, 2007 for those students currently in their final year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec).

All applicants will be notified in writing by the end of February 2008 as to their status.
Applicants selected as finalists will be notified by mid-January 2008 and interviewed by a selection panel in early February. Scholarship recipients will be notified soon after.
